  • Registration of a foreign marriage certificate in Poland

    The documents required in the procedure of registration of a foreign marriage certificate in a Polish Registry office:


    1. Document confirming the Polish citizenship (e.g. a certificate confirming or granting Polish citizenship, a valid Polish passport, a new Polish identity card);


    2.  Application form – application form for download;

    The application form should be signed by both spouses regardless of their citizenship. In case of divorced persons the application may be signed by the applicant only.


    3. Original foreign marriage certificate with Apostille;


    4. Translation of the marriage certificate:


    a) prepared by an Australian translator. Such a translation should be certified by the consul – the fee is 49 AUD;


    b) prepared by a Polish sworn translator.


    5. In case when one of the spouses does not possess polish birth cerificate, he/she should enclose the original foreign birth certificate with Apostiille (if applicable) with its translation done in accordance with the above informations.


    6. Valid Polish or Australian IDs of both spouses.


    7. In case of persons who changed their name in Australia a set of documents should be attached in accordance with the procedure concerning a change of name in Poland (the information may be found on the website of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney:




    In case of applications send by post all signatures on the application form, as well as all copies need to be certified by a Justice of the Peace.


    The documents which were sent to the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney as part of the procedure of confirmation of Polish citizenship cannot be used in the procedure of registration (transcript) of foreign certificates. Please prepare a set of documents in accordance with the above mentioned instructions.



    A register of English-Polish translators (a register of translators); a translation may also be prepared by a person who is not registered, but who is entitled to translate documents.


    Apostille – may be obtained in State offices of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Addresses are available on the website:


    All documents are being sent to the Registry Office in Poland (the processing time is approx. 2-3 months). In complicated cases this time can be longer.




    The spelling of all names and surnames in the submitted documents should be consistent.



    81 AUD – preparation of the documentation concerning registration of a foreign certificate in Poland and delivery of a Polish certificate issued on that basis.


    49 AUD – certification of a translation by the consul, in case when the document was not translated by a sworn translator in Poland.


    The fees may be paid in cash, by bank cheque or money order. The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney does not accept personal cheques.

    You may also register a foreign birth certificate in person or through an authorized representative directly at the Registry Office in Poland.
